What we mean by a "signal"

A signal is a dated, source-linked public report about cyber, public-safety or infrastructure risk in Canada — not a live alert.

On BlackPing, a signal is a single public report that tells you something about risk to Canadian people, organisations or infrastructure. Each one carries its publication date, the date we collected it and a link back to the original source.

Curated, not a live feed

Signals are a curated collection. They are not a real-time incident feed and they are not confirmation that an outage or compromise is happening right now. Where a source could not be fully retrieved, we say so on the record.

Public and private

Public signals are curated reports anyone can read. Signals you submit from your own workspace stay private to your account, and the database rules prevent anyone from turning a private submission into a public record.
